BPS Delegation Attends the 55th Annual Session of the UN Statistical Commission

March 14, 2024 | Other Activities

The Annual Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC), which is entering its 55th session this year, was held at the UN Headquarters in New York in the last week of February. As in previous years, the UNSC series of activities opened with Friday Seminars on Emerging Issues. There was something special about this year's Friday Seminar, the Deputy for Methodology and Statistical Information at BPS, Imam Machdi together with the Heads of NSO from Lithuania, Kenya and Colombia appeared as speakers in a session discussing new strategies in providing data and statistics within the framework of the National Statistical System . At the seminar, Imam spoke about Indonesia's policies and achievements in data and statistics management in the country.

In the main UNSC sessions, the BPS delegation led by Plt. Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti delivered several interventions through oral statements. For example, in discussing The Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics/FPOS, Indonesia encouraged the Assembly to consider the dynamics currently facing statistical offices of countries in the world so that FPOS, which is a pillar in producing quality official state statistics, remains relevant. In discussing Data Science, Indonesia invited countries in the Asia Pacific to utilize the UN Regional Hub in Indonesia to optimize the use of big data and data science to produce official statistics.

Between court sessions, Plt. The Head of BPS also held bilateral meetings, including with NSO Norway, Australia and Panama, as well as several international institutions and the UN in the field of statistics. This strengthens BPS's role in the world statistical community and becomes an important part of Indonesian diplomacy on the international stage.
